The best Saucony running shoe for most runners is the Saucony Ride 19: reformulated PWRRUN+ foam on a 37.6 mm lab-measured heel, 9.09 oz on a men's US 9, and Wide sizes in both genders. It is the one Saucony that fits every tier from Couch to 5K to marathon training. For long runs, the Triumph 24. If you overpronate, the Guide 19. For tempo days, the Endorphin Speed 5. For race day, the Endorphin Pro 5.

The short answer

Decoding the Saucony range

  • Ride — the balanced daily trainer. Start here.
  • Triumph — the Ride with much more foam, for long and recovery runs.
  • Guide — the Ride with CENTERPATH sidewall guidance, in three widths.
  • Hurricane — the Triumph with guidance: max cushion, mild support.
  • Endorphin Speed — nylon-plated workout shoe.
  • Endorphin Azura — super foam, no plate.
  • Endorphin Pro / Elite — carbon-plated race shoes.
  • Kinvara — low, light, plateless. Strides and short intervals.

Which Saucony for your weekly mileage

  • Couch to 5K. The NHS Couch to 5K plan is three short run/walk sessions a week for nine weeks. One shoe: the Ride 19, or the Guide 19 if your arches collapse inward when you stand.
  • 10K training. Still the Ride 19. If you are adding a weekly faster session, the Kinvara 16 is the cheap, simple way to do strides.
  • Half marathon. Higdon's Novice 1 Half peaks at a 10-mile long run. Ride 19 plus Endorphin Speed 5 is the classic two-shoe rotation at this level, and it is the point where a rotation starts to earn its keep.
  • Marathon. Novice 1 Marathon runs 18 weeks and four runs a week to a 20-mile peak. Triumph 24 for long runs, Ride 19 for easy miles, Endorphin Speed 5 for the workout, and the Endorphin Pro 5 on race day if you want a plate.

The range, side by side

The three shoes that cover most Saucony buyers. Every value links to Saucony's page or the named lab's measurement.

The fast end of the range: nylon plate, carbon plate and no plate.

One honest note on the spec sheets. RTINGS measured the Ride 19's drop at 9.8 mm against the 8 mm Saucony lists, which is worth knowing if you are sensitive to heel height. Saucony's listed weights are also flattering compared with lab weights across the industry, so compare like with like: the Ride 19's 9.09 oz here is a lab measurement, while the Triumph 24's 8.8 oz is Saucony's own figure.

Which Endorphin, and in what order

The mistake we see most often is buying a carbon racer first. The order that works for almost everyone is: daily trainer, then a plated workout shoe, then a race shoe — and plenty of runners never need the third.

  1. Endorphin Speed 5 first. Believe in the Run's review covers the nylon plate and PWRRUN PB build; at 8.4 oz on a 36 / 28 mm stack it is light enough for intervals and cushioned enough for a long tempo.
  2. Endorphin Azura if you want super foam without stiffness. Believe in the Run's Azura review describes a plateless 40 / 32 mm shoe for peppy daily running.
  3. Endorphin Pro 5 for race day. RunRepeat's lab review calls it the best super shoe for beginners and heel strikers, which is unusual praise for a carbon shoe and the reason it is our race pick over the lighter Elite.

All of these clear the World Athletics 40 mm road stack limit, so none of them will get a result disallowed at a road race. Whether a plate is worth the money at your pace is a separate question, answered in are carbon-plated shoes worth it.

Widths and fit

Saucony is the quiet second choice after New Balance on width. The Ride 19 comes in Regular and Wide for men and women; the Guide 19 adds an Extra Wide in both. The Endorphin line is standard width only, which is normal for fast shoes and worth knowing before you order one online. If width is your binding constraint, read best running shoes for wide feet — and note that the Kinvara 16's low stack and slim upper make it the least forgiving shoe on this page.

Saucony Triumph 24

  • Saucony's stated uses (daily, long and recovery runs) cover most of a half or marathon plan with one pair
  • Offered in Regular and Wide

  • No extra-wide option

Mileage protection (25%)
8.3

What it gets right

  • Extra Wide as well as Wide in both men's and women's sizes
  • Saucony says the CENTERPATH sidewalls guide the foot for balanced support without being stiff
  • A 6 mm drop, lower than the 10 mm of the Adrenaline GTS 25 or Wave Inspire 22
  • A 37 mm heel / 31 mm forefoot (men's 9) for everyday mileage

What it doesn't

  • Running Warehouse describes the Guide as having evolved into a well-cushioned neutral shoe with an inherently steady ride, so support is mild
  • 10.3 oz (men's 9) is on the heavy side for faster running

Skip this if…

…you need firm, structured support; the Guide 19 relies on gentle sidewall guidance rather than a firmer system

Saucony Endorphin Speed 5

Best for tempo days

Saucony Endorphin Speed 5

8.2 /10

9
Mileage protection (25%)
7
Stability & fit range (15%)
7.5
Pace responsiveness (15%)
8.7
Rotation versatility (15%)

What it gets right

  • Nylon plate instead of carbon; RunRepeat's bend test confirmed it keeps the shoe flexible
  • PWRRUN PB, a beaded PEBA-based foam, on a moderate 36 mm / 28 mm stack
  • Believe in the Run lists it as best for tempo days and track workouts
  • Normal and wide widths listed

What it doesn't

  • Believe in the Run's summary: good at everything, but missing a specialty
  • 36 mm heel is less stack than the max-stack super trainers here for marathon long runs
  • Neither fully plateless nor carbon, so it is not the pick for either end of the 'do I need carbon?' question

Skip this if…

…you want either no plate at all or a full carbon race shoe; the Speed sits deliberately in between with a nylon plate

Saucony Hurricane 26

Max cushion with support

Saucony Hurricane 26

Stability & fit range (15%)
8.7

What it gets right

  • Saucony says incrediLUX resists bottoming out and keeps its plushness under load, which may suit heavier runners
  • A 41 mm heel / 35 mm forefoot stack for long, easy miles
  • 9.2 oz (men's) / 8.1 oz (women's) is light for this much stack
  • Wide versions for both men and women

What it doesn't

  • Saucony's own spec panel describes its support as 'light', so guidance is milder than GuideRails or 3D Guidance shoes
  • No extra-wide option; only Medium and Wide
  • A tall 41 mm heel is built for comfort, not fast turnover

  • 8 mm drop and a design RunRepeat rates as ideal for heel strikers
  • RunRepeat notes it can also handle interval sessions and fast-paced long runs
  • Men's and women's versions are both listed on Amazon

What it doesn't

  • Heavier than most super shoes: 7.3 oz men's claimed, 7.6 oz on RunRepeat's scale
  • RunRepeat says the aggressive rocker won't work for everyone
  • Normal width only per RunRepeat

Saucony Endorphin Azura

Best plateless super-foam trainer

What it gets right

  • Same PWRRUN PB foam as the Endorphin Speed, but no plate and a taller 40 mm / 32 mm stack
  • Believe in the Run lists it as best for peppy, plateless road workouts and notes Saucony positions it as a daily trainer
  • 8.5 oz for a men's US 9
  • 40 mm heel gives it long-run cushioning that lower tempo shoes lack

What it doesn't

  • No plate, so runners who want a plated tempo shoe should look at the Endorphin Speed 5 instead
  • SpeedRoll rocker geometry is a poor match for runners who prefer a flat, flexible shoe
  • No wide option confirmed on the sources we checked

Saucony Kinvara 16

Best for strides and short intervals

Saucony Kinvara 16

Mileage protection (25%)
6
Stability & fit range (15%)
5.5
Pace responsiveness (15%)
7.6
Rotation versatility (15%)
7.4

What it gets right

  • 7.3 oz for a men's size 9, one of the lightest shoes in this list
  • No plate and a simple PWRRUN midsole, a classic answer for runners asking whether they need carbon at all
  • Running Warehouse describes it as a daily trainer that shines on tempo runs and speed workouts
  • Low 29 mm / 24 mm stack keeps you close to the ground for strides and intervals

What it doesn't

  • The 29 mm heel is well below the max-stack trainers here, so it is a short-workout shoe more than a marathon long-run shoe
  • A 4 mm drop is lower than most shoes here (6-8 mm), which some runners need time to adjust to
  • Plain PWRRUN foam rather than the PWRRUN PB used in Saucony's Endorphin shoes

How to choose

  1. Decide trainer or support first. Ride and Triumph are neutral; Guide and Hurricane add guidance. If you are unsure, read neutral vs stability running shoes before you spend.
  2. Then pick your stack. Ride and Guide sit in the high 30s at the heel; Triumph and Hurricane are in the 40s. More foam is better for long runs and worse for everything quick.
  3. Buy the Wide if you are between widths. Saucony's Regular is not generous, particularly in the Endorphin line.
  4. Add the Endorphin Speed 5 before any carbon shoe. It covers 90% of what a plate gives you at a fraction of the price, and you can train in it every week.
  5. Check the drop if you have calf or Achilles history. The Guide and Triumph sit at 6 to 10 mm listed; the Kinvara is 4 mm, which is a real change if you are coming from a high-drop trainer.

Common mistakes

  • Buying the Endorphin Pro as a first running shoe. A carbon plate does nothing useful on a run/walk session and wears out fast at easy pace.
  • Treating the Kinvara as a daily trainer. It is 29 mm at the heel. Run to the Finish's review is clear that it is a lightweight shoe for faster, shorter running.
  • Reading Saucony's listed drops as measured drops. RTINGS found nearly 2 mm more drop on the Ride 19 than the spec sheet claims.
  • Buying the Hurricane because it says support. It is a soft max-cushion shoe with light guidance. For firm, structured support, the Guide 19 or a Brooks GuideRails shoe is closer to what you want.
  • Skipping the Wide because it is not listed on Amazon's first page. It exists on the Ride 19 and Guide 19 in both genders; search the specific width.

How we chose these

Researched, compared, scored for your level

We start from what a published training plan actually asks of a runner at your level, compare every model's published specs (stack height, drop, weight, plate, stability features, widths) against that job, and score each pick on a public rubric. Each spec links to where it came from, so you can shortlist in minutes and buy with the numbers in front of you.

Scores are our editorial judgments from that documented research, and rankings are earned on the rubric alone — placement is never for sale. The rubric and weights are on the How We Pick page.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the best Saucony running shoe?
The Saucony Ride 19 for most runners: reformulated PWRRUN+ foam on a 37.6 mm lab-measured heel, 9.09 oz on a men's US 9, and Wide sizes for both genders. It is the only Saucony that genuinely suits every level from Couch to 5K to marathon training.
Saucony Ride vs Triumph: what is the difference?
Foam height. The Ride 19 sits at a 37.6 mm lab-measured heel; the Triumph 24 has 43 mm of incrediLUX at the heel on Saucony's own figures and a 10 mm listed drop. Buy the Ride as your everyday shoe and the Triumph for long runs and recovery days.
Which Saucony is best for overpronation or flat feet?
The Guide 19, which uses CENTERPATH sidewalls rather than a medial post and comes in Medium, Wide and Extra Wide for men and women. The Hurricane 26 is the max-cushion version of the same idea. See best running shoes for flat feet.
Do I need the Endorphin Pro 5 or is the Speed 5 enough?
For most runners, the Speed 5 is enough: a nylon plate, 8.4 oz, and a shoe you can use every week. Buy the Pro 5 only if you race often enough to justify a shoe you will not train in. RunRepeat rates the Pro 5 as the most beginner-friendly carbon shoe if you do.
Does Saucony make wide running shoes?
Yes. The Ride 19 comes in Regular and Wide in both genders and the Guide 19 adds an Extra Wide. The Endorphin racing line is standard width only.
